Eclipse - *Spoiler Alert!*

Eclipse is the third movie in the Twilight saga. This book gets more intense than the other two. There is action and violence and some sensuality. It starts off at the end of Bella’s senior year. She will graduate soon and wants to become a vampire like Edward. Her friend Jacob doesn’t want her to because he is the vampires’ rival; He is a werewolf. Bella has to choose between Edward and Jacob while a new group of vampires are running around Seattle.
Like the last two books, this one has been made into a movie too. Click here to see clips and the trailer for the movie. Along with Jacob, there are other werewolves too but I will talk about them later. After Edward came back, Bella and Jacob's friendship died down a little. Bella wants to see him but he won’t see her.
In the beginning of this book, Bella is a senior. There is news everywhere about mysterious killings happening in Seattle and no one knows what is going on. After a while, Edward and his family realize who is killing all the people. They don’t know who created them or why but they are new vampires; the worst kind. The Cullens know that the killing is getting out of hand and something needs to be done before the Volturi come to stop it. The Volturi try to stop the humans from knowing about the vampires and sometimes the only way to do that is to destroy them. The Cullens and Bella want to prevent them from coming to Seattle because they know that the Volturi could check on Bella to see if she is still human.
This book is one of my favorites because it is so intense. It kept me wondering what would happen next during the whole book. The Cullens call some other vampires to help them destroy all the new vampires because they know they won’t be able to alone. Edward leaves Bella with Jacob to keep her safe (the new vampires are hunting her.) Unfortunately, it doesn’t work.
Victoria, a vampire that has been trying to kill Bella since the first book, is the one that made all of the new vampires. Her and her first newborn vampire, Riley, find Bella and Jacob. Edward realizes that they’ve found her and he goes to fight them. He destroys them and Bella is safe again. This book is very fun to read but it is a thick book and may take a long time to read. Anyone that has a busy schedule might have a harder time finishing it. You can read up to chapter 4 here. There is a lot of information that is available here.

New Moon

New Moon is the second book in the Twilight saga. This one is more adventurous and exciting in my opinion. There is also a movie for this book which is much better than the first movie. I still think this book is better than the movie, though. It starts out with Bella and Edward’s senior year. She’s turning 18 so the Cullens throw a party for her. This great day quickly gets turned upside down.
Alice, Edward’s sister, is excited to throw Bella’s 18th birthday party for her. It is at the Cullens’ house and starts off great. Then, while Bella is opening one of her presents, she gets a paper cut. Jasper, Edward’s newest vampire brother smells the blood from the paper cut. For newer vampires, it is extremely hard to resist human blood. Of course, Edward knows this and pushes Bella away behind him which knocks her into the wall and fights with Jasper. Bella cuts her arm open from broken glass. Carlisle, Edward’s father, is a doctor and he stitches Bella’s cut up. Watch the video here.
I think Edward made the whole incident worse by pushing her away. He has super strength and it is too easy for him to hurt her. Bella expects to see him at school the next day but he doesn’t show up. Later that day, he’s waiting at her house when she gets home from school.  He takes her into the woods to talk to her, and tells her that he is leaving Forks with his family.
After that, he leaves quickly and she is left in the woods alone. I think it’s incredibly stupid that Edward leaves her there. She gets lost and doesn’t know how to get home so she just stays there and falls asleep. A few hours later, she is being carried back home by Sam Uley. Edward took everything with him that would remind her of him and told her that it would be like he was never there.
She becomes good friends with Jacob, her dad's best friend's son. She doesn't know this but Jacob has a secret too. He's a werewolf. Throughout the rest of the book Bella tries to do dangerous things because she can see Edward when she's being reckless. One day after going cliff diving, Alice goes to her house because she thought Bella had died. Edward read Alice's thoughts and went to the Volturi to ask for death too. The Volturi are the most powerful vampires and that’s where a vampire would go when they have done something wrong. Edward’s plan is to show himself to the humans so the Volturi would kill him. Bella and Alice go to Italy to stop Edward from doing this and after they do Edward decides to stay in Bella’s life. I think Edward should have stayed with Bella in the first place because if he had stayed with her then she wouldn't have chose to do reckless activities. If someone reads this book and likes it, I suggest watching the movie too! Vist this website for extras about New Moon. Visit this website for more information.

Twilight

Hey! Now I’m going to write about each of one of the 4 books in the Twilight Saga starting with the first one. I enjoy reading all of the books because I think they are very exciting. The first book in the saga is Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. It was made into a movie on November 21, 2008.

Twilight is about a 17 year old girl named Isabella Swan that lives in Phoenix, Arizona with her mom and her mom’s fiancĂ©, Phil. He is a minor league baseball player so he travels a lot. Bella’s mom stays home with her even though Bella knows she would like to travel with Phil. Bella decides to live with her dad, Charlie Swan, in Forks, Washington; a small and gloomy town. Forks, Washington is a real place and is now a hotspot for Twilight fans. Bella spots the Cullens in the cafeteria at school and is immediately intrigued. Edward is stunningly attractive but he’s also an outsider. They become friends and she falls in love with him but she still can’t figure out why he’s so different. After going to the beach with her friends she hears some stories about “the cold ones”. “The cold ones” are vampires who have sworn off humans; which means they don’t drink human blood, they survive on the blood of animals. Although, they still are not welcome on Indian lands. She’s curious about “the cold ones” so she researches about them on her computer and realizes that Edward and his family are all vampires.

He is also in love with Bella which he considers a delight and a torment. Although he doesn’t drink human blood, he still craves it and her scent makes him want it even more. After a baseball game with the Cullens, three other vampires find them and one of them, James, wants to kill Bella which leads the Cullens to do everything they can to protect her. I enjoyed reading the book so I decided to watch the movie. In most cases, I think the books are better and that is definitely true with this one.  The director did not have much money to make the movie with so it wasn’t as good as I had hoped.  They left a few parts from the book out that I thought was important and so it wasn’t done as well as it should have been. I still think everyone should go watch the movie though. It is important to read the first book if you are planning on reading the rest of the books. If no one reads the first one, the other books will be very confusing, therefore I suggest everyone read Twilight first.

Beautiful Lies

The book this week is called Beautiful Lies by Lisa Unger.  It is about a woman named Ridley Jones in her early 30’s. She is a journalist in New York and lives a privileged live; her father is a pediatrician and her mother is a busy stay-at-home mom. The only flaw to her family was her older druggie brother.  If she had slept in for just 10 minutes longer, her life would still be perfect. But she saves a little boy from getting hit by a car that changes everything.  A photographer filmed the whole event turning Ridley Jones into a media celebrity; her face was even on CNN.  Once everything dies down, she receives a package on her doorstep with a picture of a woman that looks like her holding a small baby and a note that says “Are you my daughter?” Curious, she asks her parents about it and they act like she’s foolish.  She then meets Jake, the metal sculptor that just moved in upstairs, she tells him about the note and picture because she feels like she can trust him. But can she?

The next day, she finds another note. This time it says “They Lied.” Now she’s even more curious and can’t let all of this go.  Her parents and her ex boyfriend Zack tell her to drop it but she knows she just can’t.  After she witnesses a murder she has no choice but to follow everything that is happening and find out what is going on. The whole book leads her to new discoveries about her life and the people in her life. The small things Ridley ignored in the past now have an entirely different meaning. I’m sure the ending will surprise everyone. It did me.

Here is a small excerpt of the first chapter from Barnes & Noble:
"Ridley, please, don't do this." The voice echoes in the dark and comes from up above me. "We can work this out."
I don't answer. I know it's a trick. Nothing about this can be worked out now; we're all too far gone. There have been plenty of chances to close my eyes and go back to the sleep of my life as it was, but I haven't taken any of them. Do I wish now that I had? It's hard to answer that question, as the wraiths move closer.
"Six," he whispers.
"What?"
"You have six bullets left."
This book is a romantic thriller that will keep anyone on his or her toes.  It is described as a “nail-biter” and that’s definitely true.  The cons are :
  • that it is predictable
  • explicit
The pros are :
  • that it will keep you interested
  • it is exciting to read.
You can buy the book here.

Dear John

My name is Vicky. I love reading books so I want to share the books I’ve read with you. The first book that I would suggest you read is Dear John by Nicholas Sparks. Buy the book here.

It is a romantic drama about an army sergeant that falls in love with a woman in two weeks. I enjoy this book because it is during the same time of 9/11. It shows a little of what it was like when 9/11 was happening. I was only about 7 when 9/11 happened and I was in school so I didn’t even know what really occured and it didn’t matter much to me until I was about 13. I now know why it was such a big deal to the United States and why it still matters to us now. This is a great book for people who like romantic stories.

Dear John starts off with a high school dropout named John Tyree that enlists in the army. One summer day he meets Savannah Curtis, the love of his life. He then narrates the story of how they fell in love. He starts at the beginning when they first met in North Carolina with his father during the summer. Savannah’s purse gets knocked into the ocean by her friend and he dives into the water to retrieve it for her. They immediately become friends that night and for the last two weeks of summer they are inseparable. At the end of the two weeks they realize that they have fallen in love and that they have one year apart while he is serving in the war. Unpredictably, 9/11 happens. John decides to re-enlist to serve his country which means another two years away from Savannah.  They still write letters to each other but one letter changes everything. The last letter she writes ends their relationship forever because she falls in love with someone else and is already engaged before he gets back home.  Instead of going back home, he stays in the army and gets shot in the shoulder so he takes some time away from the war. Later, he finds out that his dad is very sick so he is sent home again. After his dad passes away he visits Savannah. Although she is now married, he is still in love with her and they stay friends after her husband passes away. Visit the official site. This is where I found a lot of my information.
